Number 5 is a bit of a departure from Numbers 1 - 4, meaning that it is bright, sweet, juicy, clean, and rosy, as opposed to woody, spicy, rich, or musky.
When I first designed this scent for Twinkle Apothecary in 2018, my original intent was to make something unapologetically sweet and warm, like a sugar cookie.
Turns out, I really hate sugar-y sweet perfumes, so what I ended up with is much more complex and rich than a sugar cookie. It's more like a lemon-rose-cardamom crème brûlée cupcake, if you can fathom such a thing. And despite the fact that it is sweet, rich, and rosy, it still reads clean. A soft, warm clean. A cozy clean, if you will!
I've made the slightest tweaks to this one for this line, but I don't think they're too noticeable. It's less cedarwood, more vetiver (less smoky/woody/sharp, more smooth and light,) and there's a trace of cocoa absolute, which is even less noticeable but I find that it adds a little depth without making the scent too heavy. Oh, and a little ruby red grapefruit at the top gives it an extra burst of juicy sweetness that plays so well with the cherry-like aspects of the bitter almond extract in the first few moments of wear. Everything else is still intact, and hopefully you'll agree that it's better than ever. I rarely wore No. 5 before but now I can't get enough of it. It feels like sinking down into a cozy nest of pillows at the end of a long day. Like being hugged by a smell and handed a spiced tea latte... maybe while you tuck into that cupcake...
Bright, clear, juicy notes of citrus, cherry, and almond burst out of the bottle to introduce this scent. This vivid sweetness lasts only a few brief moments while making the way for soft, warm, rosy florals.
Subtle spice notes (nutmeg, cardamom) add a sparkling warmth. The floral notes are quiet and soft, almost melting into your skin, as if they've always been there. You simply radiate with a sweet, powdered, light musk. The remaining almond and lemon notes are somewhat reminiscent of soap.
There are caramelized wood notes in the base, but they are so smooth that you hardly notice them. They merely suspend the softness and warmth for as long as possible.
Strength and wear time:
Soft to medium-strong. Last approximately 4 hours on the skin.
Or, in the fall/winter.
When you need a hug.
